Meet Miss MN Appearances Q & A Blog
Q & A with Miss Minnesota
What's your favorite area of competition? Why?
Definitely talent! The talent portion is the most fun and actually the easiest area of competition for me. The hardest part of the other areas of competition is that I am anxious and impatient to get going. Before the talent competition I am calm and very excited to get out there to perform!

What was the best part of pageant week (besides winning)?
I had a great time bowling on Monday night at Brunswick Zone. I was on a team with Katie (Miss Frazee), Kayla (Miss Moorhead) and Tara (Miss Heart of the Lakes) and we did very well! I got a turkey (which I learned was three strikes in a row), I bowled over 150 on the first game... oh, and did I mention I was on the winning team? We had a fabulous time! If we hadn't won on score we definitely could have won for our flawless technique and astounding style (and by astounding I mean if you were to watch our technique or style you would be astounded we could get a combined score of 100). Just goes to show that having fun pays off!

What do you plan to accomplish this year?
In addition to promoting my platform, Higher Education: Journey to Your Dreams throughout Minnesota, I want to get to know the communities that I am visiting through my year of service. I grew up in southeast Minnesota and I went to school in the northeast corner of the state, so I am very excited to get to see so many communities all over Minnesota.

Tell us a bit about yourself... who is Angie McDermott?
A great deal of my life, beyond school, sports and pageants is the outdoors. I love camping, hiking, kayaking, canoeing, fishing and grilling out. I have been camping with my family since before I can remember and when I was in elementary school I began attending Camp Olson YMCA, which is in northern Minnesota outside of Longville. There I learned how to sail and eventually became a camp counselor for a couple of summers in high school. Sailing is without a doubt one of the things that makes me happiest (along with music and ice cream of course!)

I was born in the cities and my parents moved back to their hometown (Austin, MN) when I was 5. I am really glad we moved back to Austin because I got to grow up with my family very close by, as all of my grandparents lived in Austin. A huge benefit of living in the same town as my grandparents is that all of my aunt and uncles come home for the holidays, I never have to drive more than 10 minutes across town to get grandma’s Thanksgiving turkey or Christmas ham. It is amazing!

For those of you who do not know me, I am pretty goofy! If you catch me when I have been in the car for a long time (especially if I am not driving) you will see my ADHD at its best. I will literally be bouncing around or if you are really lucky you will see my “I have too much energy to spare” dance. I assure you, if you are lucky enough to see this it will be quite entertaining! I will go, go, go... and then suddenly... I am done for the rest of the day. My parents tell me that I did the same thing when I was little.

Speaking of my parents, I am the youngest child of Rod and Jean McDermott. I have an older brother, Tony. I come from a pretty big family and I am very lucky to have a lot of family that lives within an easy drive. If you were at the Miss Minnesota you may have seen (or heard them) in the back of the auditorium. I have always had a GREAT cheering section!

Next time, we'll chat with Angie about her summer appearances and how she's settling into her new role as Miss Minnesota.
