Collett Moorhouse, 19, is a student at Iowa State University working to obtain a double degree in Advertising and Marketing. She is currently a sophomore with junior classification and hopes to graduate in the spring of 2010. She has an older sister, 21, who is her best friend, and a younger brother who is 17. Her biggest supporters are her parents, John & Lisa Moorhouse, from Kilkenny, MN. At college she is involved with the honors college, hip hop club, Pointe, secretary of Advertising Club, Kappa Alpha Theta, youth group, and is a research assistant in Psychomedia. She enjoys dancing (since she was two), hanging out with friends, hiking, camping, boating on the lake, rollerblading, and doing anything outdoors. She also enjoy shopping, playing board games, and watching movies.
As Miss Waseca County Sleigh and Cutter, she hopes to lead a blue ribbon campaign to raise awareness for child abuse and help prevent it. She plans to going into homes to helped abused families, mentor abused children, and talk with community members to educate them on what child abuse is so that anyone can prevent it.
Within the first month of her reign, she participated in a child abuse walk in St. Paul with Prevent Child Abuse Minnesota, and has started the plans for a book for families to read to raise awareness about the signs, symptoms, and how they can get help. With the help of Kappa Alpha Theta, she joined in their efforts of raising money to help abused children. Last year, they hosted a chili dinner and organized the Light of Hope. They are also preparing another Chili Dinner for later in the month of November. These benefits raise thousands of dollars that go to help support Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) whose mission is to speak on the best behalf of abused and neglected children who are involved in the juvenile court system.

Local History: The Miss Waseca Program has built a strong tradition of offering a quality pageant experience to young women in Waseca County for the past twelve years. The Miss Waseca Pageant was revived by Rick & Natalie Priebe in 1995 after a 10 year hiatus. Kim Tischer became the new director in 1997 and the name changed to Miss Waseca County in 1998. In 2002, the pageant joined forces with the Sleigh and Cutter organization in order to build stronger scholarship funds, enhance their philanthropic works, and provide an ambassador for the Sleigh and Cutter festival. This partnership has proved very fruitful for both organizations.
