Meet Miss Midwest, Kelsey Malecha!
Education: Kelsey is a graduate of the University of St. Thomas – Opus School of Business, where she double-majored in Business Communication and Real Estate Studies. While at UST, she was a Dean's list student, a UST Scholarship Recipient, National Leadership Honor Society Member, Real Estate Society Member. Kelsey graduated from Apple Valley High School in 2003. During high school, she was Vice-President of the National Honor Society and a committee leader for the Student Council.
Platform: Financial literacy - teaching children, teens, and adults the importance of saving money, investing for the future, and becoming financially independent, is the focus of Kelsey’s platform, as well as her passion for life. Kelsey has partnered with the Minnesota Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy for support and resources for her platform.
Now Kelsey is partnered with, volunteers and teaches for many organizations and companies that share her vision of financial literacy education for all people. For more information on her platform, visit her website: www.understandingfinances.com.
Talent: Kelsey is a professionally trained dancer and has spent the last 20 years of her life involved in dance. She was the captain of the prestigious Apple Valley Dance Team, where she competed in the Minnesota State High School League dance competition and placed in the top three for three consecutive years. Additionally, she was a two-time recipient of the All-Conference Dancer award. For her talent at Miss Midwest, Kelsey performed a theatrical jazz dance to “One” from A Chorus Line.
Career: Currently, Kelsey is a licensed appraiser trainee with a commercial appraisal firm in downtown Minneapolis. Her career ambition is to acquire her MAI designation with the Appraisal Institute and become a leader in the real estate and finance industry.
Kelsey is the daughter of Ken and Sharon Malecha of Apple Valley. She has an older brother who is a CPA and a younger brother who is a high school sophomore.
